Music

The Down East Folk Arts Society's Concert Series is recognized by professional artists and audiences alike as one of the best on the folk circuit. A majority of the concerts are held in two small and intimate "Listening Rooms" :Trent River Coffee Company in New Bern and Clawson's Restaurant in Beaufort. Larger concerts (our FolkRoots Series) are co-sponsored by and held in the auditoriums of Craven Community College in New Bern or either Carteret Community College or the History Place in Morehead City.

Through our affiliation with the North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance we are able to identify and attract an exciting selection of talented artists from the U.S. and Canada, to perform and interact with our audiences. Our small venue concerts represent the wide diversity that has traditionally been found on the American folk scene -- from contemporary singer/songwriters performing their own material, to those whose musical roots and influences include Cajun, Cowboy, Celtic, Blues, Old Time, and the Maritime traditions.

Our FolkRoots Series showcases World Folk music, with artists from various cultures sharing the music, dance, storytelling, and instruments of their native cultures with audiences. Some of the cultures represented include Latin, African, Asian, and Russian, to name a few.
