Swingin’ at Sunset – a Sunday Afternoon Jazz Concert & Reception

Swingin’ at Sunset

Swingin’ at Sunset features music by New York Jazz pianist, Steve Elmer, who will perform well-known standards (Rogers & Hart, Gershwin, Cole Porter), and his own original compositions. The concert will be followed by a reception featuring light hors d’oeuvres. Proceeds will benefit the FolkArts Society’s upcoming community outreach programs.

Chris Rosser & River Guerguerian

The Society’s April concerts will showcase two folk concerts with an exotic twist! The performances will feature Ashville-based Chris Rosser, a singer-songwriter, and composer whose music has been strongly influenced by his keen interest in world cultures and instruments. Fascinated with Indian music since childhood, he plays a wide variety of instruments that adds a mysterious, Old World sound to many of his songs. Joining Chris, for the two performances, is the gifted multi-percussionist, River Guerguerian.

Molasses Creek

Molasses Creek is Gary Mitchell (guitar & vocals), Kitty Mitchell (bass & vocals), and Fiddler Dave (fiddle & vocals), a talented group whose humble beginnings arose amidst the rich tidewater marshes of Ocracoke Island, NC. Since 1993 this highly original acoustic group has continued to win a loyal following with their captivating stage presence, elegant harmonies, blazing instrumentals, and quirky sense of humor. Longtime members of the North Carolina Arts Council Touring Roster and award winners from Garrison Keillor's “A Prairie Home Companion”, the band has eight albums to their credit and has performed at concert venues and festivals throughout the U.S. Mirium Sauls of Art State Magazine calls Molasses Creek “…a rollicking trio that takes its audience on a whirlwind journey with every performance.”

As part of the Down East FolkArts Society’s FolkRoots Series for Schools & Communities Molasses Creek will also perform at two elementary schools, and present a free concert on an outside stage at the NC Maritime Museum’s Wooden Boat Show.
